Time To Press The Executives!

It’s time to get our EXECUTIVE leaders to lean on Congress/Senator Cortez Masto to include carbon pricing in the Reconciliation bill. Here’s a quick way to do so federally and at the state level.

We were very successful in having people call and write Senator Cortez Masto’s office.  (Thank YOU!)   Now let’s continue by having President Biden press the policy and by mobilizing our Nevada political leaders.

President Biden

CCL has a tool to make this easy — cclusa.org/white-house.   Our DC team says emails work best for lobbying the President.  Just personalize the subject line and body and press “CONTINUE.”   That takes you to a similar tool for both Nevada Senators.  If you haven’t messaged them recently, you can personalize a message for them, too; otherwise, uncheck the boxes next to them and press SUBMIT,  That sends your message to President Biden (and to the Senators if you left the boxes checked).

Governor Sisolak

The pitch to our Governor is simple.  The State has announced it’s tracking 4% behind the mandatory GHG reductions required by state law by 2025.  Worse, it’s tracking 18% behind the 2030 goals.   If Congress passes carbon fee and dividend legislation, it’s likely that both of these goals will be met — AT NO COST TO THE STATE GOVERNMENT.   The only expenditure is a bit of political capital (which gains a bit of political benefit, too, it’s fair to say).

The Governor has a site where you can Share Your Thoughts with the Governor.   It takes five minutes to tell the Governor that you believe he should support FEDERAL “carbon pricing” … especially in the form of a gradually rising carbon fee paired with a dividend / rebate of the fees back to Amerian households … AND you urge him to press our Congressional delegation, particular Senator Cortez Masto, to include that provision in the Reconciliation bill.

    Governor Sisolak,

Thank you for all of the great progress Nevada is making towards reducing its greenhouse gas emissions towards solving the climate change crisis. National carbon pricing, particularly carbon fee and dividend would be a major effective, efficient and equitable way to move the whole country forward in meeting the biggest threat of our time. Such legislation would also be particularly effective at supporting Nevada’s effort and ensure we stay on target to meet our 2030 and 2050 goals. This would create jobs and support the growing renewable energy and energy transmission economy that we have such an advantage in. Please consider joining this effort by urging our national senators and representatives to include carbon fee and dividend in the budget reconciliation package, particularly Senator Cortez Masto who is helping write the legislation in the Senate Finance Committee.
