CCL National Releases New Strategy

At the semi-annual national conference on Dec. 3-4, CCL presented  the results of its year-long strategic review: Expanding our policy focus from carbon fee and dividend to include three complimentary policy initiatives:

  • Healthy Forests
  • Building Electrification & Efficiency
  • Clean Energy Remitting Reform

In her opening keynote, Executive Director Madeleine Para explains the wisdom of adding these policy areas.  Research Director Dana Nuccitelli shared the scientific, economic and political viability supporting these policies, all summarized in this chart:

The IRA puts us on track to a 28% reduction. These 4 policies will improve that result as shown.

“Business as usual” after the IRA will lead to 28% reductions (from 2005 levels) by 2030, and permitting reform will take that to 40% all by itself!  Carbon fee and dividend policies will reduce GHGs another 12% by 2030 and lay the foundation for deeper reductions from 2030-2050.

If you missed some or all of the sessions, see links below.   If you are short on time, the Opening & Welcome (Madeleine Para) and CCL’s Policy Agenda (Dana Nuccitelli) presentations are absolute “musts” and Putting It Into Action (CCL Staff) is extremely helpful.

The breakouts will get you comfortable with some of the logic and data behind each of the policy initiatives:
