Nevada is “The Silver State” — that claim to fame rooted in the discover of the Comstock Lode in 1859. Less famous that the California Gold Rush of a decade earlier and less consequential than the discovery of petroleum in Latrobe, Pennsylvania, also in 1859, the silver trade jump started Nevada’s growth and eventual statehood.
