Feel free to use either the FULL EXPLANATION or the ABBREVIATED VERSION below to ask anyone you meet to become an activist at least to the extent of calling or writing their Members of Congress.

FULL EXPLANATION

In my looking closely at effective actions to address climate change, I’ve discovered two core truths:

First, to combat the problem, the single most impactful action you can personally take is demanding that Congress take immediate, effective action.

Second, the single most effective public policy to combat climate change is carbon pricing … specifically a carbon fee and dividend policy like that proposed in HR 2705, The Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act.  The importance of this policy is broadly supported by scientists, economists, business and think-tanks.

Our Members of Congress tell us that they are representatives — they try to do things that their constituents want.  Accordingly, we need to call and/or write them … and not just once.

Here’s an easy way for you to contact your Representative and Senators, and you don’t need to be a Citizens’ Climate Lobby member to use any of these tools:

    1. Write – go to cclusa.org/write and add your ZIP code.  The tool will create a draft mail you can send saying a) you are a constituent, b) you vote, c) you really care about climate, and d) you want their support for carbon pricing legislation, specifically a carbon-fee-and-dividend policy like that in HR 2307.  Edit the draft into your own words.    (Click the “Done” button when done.)
    2. Call – go to cclusa.org/call and add your ZIP code.  The tool will take you to a page with the phone number for your Rep and/or Senator.  CALL their office.  A friendly intern or voicemail will answer, and you’ll make the same 4 points — you are a voting constituent who cares about climate, and you want them to support carbon pricing, specifically a carbon-fee-and-dividend policy like HR 2307.  (Click the “Done” button when done.)DO THIS MONTHLY!
    3. Monthly Reminder – go to cclusa.org/mcc and sign up for a monthly reminder, by text message and/or email.  Then, every month, you’ll get the text and/or email with a link that will take you to the calling tool.  It literally takes just 5 minutes/month to call, and you can do it from your phone anytime.

THANK YOU.  If more and more people did this (and more do every month), Congress will enact the “single most effective policy tool available to combat climate change” — carbon pricing — sooner rather than later.
